Rowan Wins Close Game 1-0 Over Elizabethtown

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team turned away visiting Elizabethtown College, 1-0 on Wednesday night.

The Profs are undefeated with a 5-0 record and they are ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region. It was the first loss for the sixth ranked Blue Jays who are now 2-1-1 on the season.

Midfielder Kaitlyn Florio (so. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) scored the game winner at 9:44 when she headed in a cross from forward Karen Patruno (sr. Somerdale, NJ/Paul VI). It was Florio’s fourth goal on the season and Patruno’s third assist.

Rowan ended the game with eight shots while Elizabethtown totaled 16. The Blue Jays outshot the Profs in the second half, 8-2. Goalie Melissa Hall (so. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) made four saves for her third shutout. For Elizabethtown, goalie Angela Freeland (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) stopped three shots.

Rowan starts its conference schedule when it hosts Montclair State University on Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m.
