Rowan Defeats Roanoke, 2-1

SALEM, VA– Forward Sean Docherty scored the game winning goal on a penalty kick for Rowan University in a 2-1 victory over host Roanoke College in the Domino’s Invitational.

Docherty (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) also recorded the tying goal and was named to the All-Tournament team. Rowan has an overall record of 4-1 while Roanoke drops to 0-3-1 on the season.

The first half ended with Roanoke ahead 1-0 with an unassisted goal by back Jake Underwood (jr. Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall). Docherty tied the score at 51:18 with assists from midfielder Andrew Finger (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and forward Robert McMullen (sr. Barrington, NJ/Northern Burlington). With 8:10 remaining, Docherty scored on a penalty kick.

Rowan goalie Anthony Clemente (sr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) made five saves. Clemente and McMullen were selected to the All-Tournament team. In the Roanoke net, Adam Thompson (so. Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) stopped one shot.

Rowan’s next game is at home on Wednesday, September 13 against Immaculata University at 5 p.m.
