Rowan Defeats Olivet, 4-1

OLIVET, MI – Four different players each scored a goal to lead the Rowan University women’s soccer team over host Olivet College, 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Rowan is undefeated with a 4-0 record. Midfielders Jamie Weist (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape Reg.), Krista Verzi (fr. Delran, NJ/Delran) and Kerry Little (jr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Boro) and forward Karen Patruno (sr. Somerdale, NJ/Paul VI) each had a goal.

Rowan totaled 20 shots while Olivet (1-3) took four shots. Melissa Hall (so. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) and Alicia Mannino (so. Richboro, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) shared the Profs’ goaltending duties. Hall made two saves in the first 71 minutes and Mannino was in the net for the remainder of the game. For Olivet, goalie Shane Brady (fr. Battle Creek, MI/Central) stopped six shots.

The Profs had a 1-0 lead after Weist’s goal in the first half. Weist scored on a corner kick with assists from back Tricia Egler (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) and forward Samantha Becker (jr. Sicklerville, NJ/Highland Reg.). At 50:12, Patruno made it 2-0 on a pass from Weist. Verzi’s goal came on a free kick just outside the box at 61:31. Little had the fourth goal on a penalty kick. Forward Cori Barrea (so. East Lansing, MI/East Lansing) spoiled the shutout with an unassisted goal with nine minutes remaining.

Rowan returns home to host Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m.
