Rowan Defeats Notre Dame (MD), 69-62

GLASSBORO, NJ – Guard Kristina Wallace scored a career high 23 points to lead Rowan University over the College of Notre Dame, 69-62 in a nonconference game on Thursday.

The Profs improve to 5-3 on the season. Wallace (jr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) was nine for 10 from the floor with one three-pointer and four for seven from the line. Wallace also dished seven assists and had four steals. Guard Brynn DeGroff (so. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) contributed with 12 points.

For Notre Dame (3-2), center Catherine Vecchioni scored 14 points. Guard Gloria Broady contributed with 11 points while forward Kimberly Ordille added 10.

Rowan was ahead by nine points (39-30) in the second half at 17:26. Notre Dame used a 10-2 run to pull within one point (41-40) with 13:29 remaining. The Profs had an 11-1 surge in a four minute span to lead 52-41. Forward Lauren Byrne (sr. Paulsboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) totaled five points in the run. Twice the Gators trailed by three points, 54-51 at 5:38 and 56-53 at 4:43, it was the closest they came for the remainder of the game. With the score 56-53, DeGroff hit a three-pointer (3:50) and she followed with a jumper (3:50). Wallace’s three gave Rowan a seven point advantage (66-59) at 1:03.

In the first half, Notre Dame tied the score at 12 (12:08) with a layup by guard Katie Lawson. Rowan had 11 unanswered points for an 11 point advantage (23-12) with 7:48 remaining. DeGroff contributed with five points. The Gators pulled within four points (25-21) after Vecchioni’s jumper at 5:11. The Profs led by nine (31-22) when Wallace hit two foul shots with 3:29 left. Notre Dame answered with eight straight points and trailed by one (31-30) at 1:03. Rowan made two baskets to lead 35-30 at the intermission.

Rowan’s next game is at Widener University on Saturday, December 16 at 7 p.m.
