GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team won 54-45 over visiting Lebanon Valley College on Monday night.
Forward Jessica Nimbley (fr. Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney) led the Profs (4-3) with a career high 17 points. Guard Kristina Wallace (jr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) contributed with nine points. Forward Ashley Cieplicki (so. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
For Lebanon Valley (2-4), forward Monica Johnson (sr. Baltimore, MD/Randallstown) scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Guard Donna Geiger (jr. Westminster, MD/Chapelgate Christian Academy) hit the boards for eight rebounds.
In the second half, the Flying Dutchmen were ahead by nine points (34-25) after Johnson’s layup at 15:50. The Profs came within one point (39-38) after a jumper by guard Susan Massara (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) with 10:11 remaining. Nimbley’s jumper made the score 40-39 (9:25) in Rowan’s favor. Johnson followed with a jumper to retake the lead (41-40) at 8:19. It was the last time Lebanon Valley was ahead. Rowan answered with five straight points in a five minute span for a four point advantage (45-41). With the Profs leading 45-43 (2:43), they ended the game with a 9-2 run. Cieplicki scored four points, Nimbley made three and Wallace had two.
Lebanon Valley started the first half with three straight baskets to lead 6-0 at 16:21. Rowan came back to trail by two (13-11) after a jumper by center Katie Shaw (jr. Wallington, NJ/Wallington) at 10:47. Nimbley tied the score at 13 (9:49) and guard Michelle Lala’s (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) basket put the Profs up (15-13) for the first time (9:26). The score was tied four more times with the last one at 1:14 when Nimbley’s jumper made it 23-23. Forward Cassandra Martinez (jr. South River, NJ/South River) had the last basket in the period (0:35) to give Lebanon Valley a two point advantage (25-23).
Rowan will host the College of Notre Dame (MD) on Thursday, December 7 at 7 p.m.
