GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s basketball team defeated Cabrini College, 72-50 in a nonconference game on Tuesday.
Guard Thomas Baker (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) led Rowan with 20 points. Forward Matt Byrnes (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) contributed with 16 points. Guard Tim Bowser (sr. Millville, NJ/Millville) grabbed eight rebounds and recorded seven steals. Forward Rahim Shiver (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) pulled down eight rebounds.
The Profs have a 6-2 record while the Cavaliers are 1-8 overall. For Cabrini, forward Chris Blake (fr. San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius Prep) totaled 13 points that included four three-pointers. Forward Randy Reid (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Monsignor Bonner) compiled eight rebounds. Guard Charles Bush (so. Villanova, PA/Harriton) had six assists and two steals.
Rowan was ahead 39-23 at the end of the first half. In the first five minutes, the Profs built an eight point lead (11-3). Care scored six points and Baker had five. Cabrini pulled within two points (11-9) after guard Timmy Iacovone’s (fr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) three-pointer at 13:38. Rowan went up by 10 points (21-11) on a jumper by Baker with 6:37 left. The Cavaliers followed with a Blake three-pointer (6:19) that made the score 21-14. Rowan pulled away with a 16-3 run in a four minute span to lead 37-17. The 20 points was the Profs’ biggest lead of the period. Baker contributed with four baskets and Byrnes hit two threes. At the intermission, Baker had totaled 15 points and Byrnes had 11. Blake led Cabrini with 10 points.
In the second half, the Cavaliers trailed by 13 (57-44) at 6:40. It was the closest they came for the remainder of the game. Rowan pulled away with an 11-3 run for a 21 point advantage (68-47) with 2:18 left. The Profs’ biggest lead of the game was at the end, 22 points.
Rowan is home again on Friday, December 15 against Gwynedd-Mercy College at 7 p.m.
