UNION, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated Kean University, 2-1 in the final New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game of the season.
The Profs are 14-5 overall with a 5-1 NJAC mark. This week, Rowan is ranked 12th in the nation in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Coaches Poll. The Cougars have an overall record of 9-7 and a 2-4 conference mark.
In the second half, forward Danielle Miranda (jr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) scored the winning goal at 59:10 and forward Rachel Cheafsky (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) assisted. It was Miranda’s 19th goal on the season and fifth game winner.
Kean forward Vicki Egerer (sr. Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) tied the score at 10:37 in the first period. Egerer tipped in a shot by midfielder Katie McGee (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.). Forward Amanda Greene (so. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester) put the Profs on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 6:32.
Rowan finished the game with 21 shots while Kean took four. In the Cougars’ goal, Jenni Barry (fr. Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) made 12 saves. For the Profs, goalie Amanda Cucinotti (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) stopped two shots.
Rowan now waits to see if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The pairings for the 2006 tournament will be announced on Sunday night.
