Rowan Posts An 88-60 Victory Over Hood

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team defeated Hood College (MD), 88-60 on Thursday night at Esbjornson Gymnasium.

Guard Brynn DeGroff (so. Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) had a career high 14 points and five steals to lead Rowan. Guard Susan Massara (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) added 12 points off the bench. Guard Kristina Wallace (jr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) contributed 11 points, a season high seven steals and a game high seven assists. Forward Ashley Cieplicki (so. Haworth, NJ/Dumont) scored 11 points.

Forward Jennifer Willison led Hood with game highs of 18 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Dana Shook had 17 points and five assists. Guard Jessica Nease and forward Sara Hartlaub scored eight points each.

In the first half, the Profs jumped out to a 16-6 lead following a steal and layup by Wallace at 14:40. The Blazers closed the deficit to five (16-11) with 12:15 remaining in the half after a jumper by Hartlaub and a three-pointer by Shook. Over the next 7:17, Rowan outscored Hood 23-2 to take a commanding 39-13 lead. In that stretch, Massara had six points and DeGroff added five. The Profs took a 28 point lead, their biggest of the half, on a Nicole Perrini (jr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) layup with 10 seconds remaining.

Rowan had its biggest lead of the game, 33 (66-33), on a layup by Massara at 11:57 in the second half. Hood went on a 12-2 run over the next 3:25 to cut the lead to 68-45. The Blazers failed to get closer. The Profs were too much down the stretch building the lead to 30 with 15 seconds remaining.

Rowan opens its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) schedule with a trip to William Paterson University on Saturday, December 2. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
