IMMACULATA, PA – The Rowan University women’s basketball team won 71-54 over host Immaculata University on Monday night.
The Profs were led by forward Lauren Byrne (sr. Paulsboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) with 16 points, 13 in the second half. Guard Susan Massara (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) scored a career high 15 points that included three three-pointers. Center Katie Shaw (jr. Wallington, NJ/Wallington) pulled down a game-high 15 boards. It broke her career mark of 13 rebounds from the first game of the season against Brooklyn College. Guard Kristina Wallace (jr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) contributed with nine points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Rowan improves to 2-2 on the season and Immaculata is 2-2 overall. The Mighty Macs had three players in double figures. Forward Mary Kate Pawlowski (sr. Exton, PA/Downington) scored 16 points while guard Jessica Dantzler-Henry (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) and forward Meg Legere (sr. Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) each had 12.
Rowan started the game with a 12-3 run in the first five minutes. Immaculata came back with a 10-2 surge to pull within one point (14-13) in a four minute span. Two more times the Mighty Macs came within one point (19-18) at 8:32 and (23-22) at 5:52. Rowan had a six point advantage (32-26) after Massara’s three with 2:07 left in the half. At the intermission, the Profs were ahead 32-29.
In the final period, Immaculata trailed by three points (34-31) after Pawlowski’s basket at 18:16. Rowan pulled away with 13 straight points to lead 46-31 at 15:21. Byrne scored five of the points. The Profs’ biggest lead of the game was 18 points (57-39).
Rowan returns home on Thursday, November 30 against Hood College (MD) at 7 p.m.
