St. Mary's Defeats Rowan, 57-46

ST. MARY’S CITY, MD – The St. Mary’s College (MD) women’s basketball team defeated Rowan University, 57-46 in a nonconference game on Tuesday.

St. Mary’s was led by guard Megan Uglik (jr. Frederick, MD/Linganore) with 17 points. Guards Stephanie Saint-Aubin (fr. Upper Marlboro, MD/Elizabeth Seton) and Kiely Murphy (so. Olney, MD/Good Counsel) also scored in double digits with 11 and 10 points respectively. Forward Lisa Daciek (jr. Laurel, MD/Atholton) posted eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Forward Allie Scott (so. Laurel, MD/Atholton) added eight points and seven boards.

For Rowan, guard Kristina Wallace (jr. Logan Twp., NJ/Clearview Reg.) scored 19 points, including four three-pointers. Center Katie Shaw (jr. Wallington, NJ/Wallington) contributed nine points and eight rebounds. Guard Michelle Lala (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) chipped in with eight points.

In the second half, the Profs came within one (31-30) at 14:09 after a layup by forward Kelly Lallave (fr. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park). St. Mary’s went ahead 37-30 at 11:41 following a layup by Murphy and two free throws each from Saint-Aubin and Uglik. The closest Rowan would come was two points (37-35) at 10:31 after a three point field goal by Lala. The Seahawks’ biggest lead was 13 points (57-44) with 23 seconds left to play.

In the first half, the game was tied five times before St. Mary’s took the lead for good at 7:55. With Rowan ahead by one (22-21), Uglik made a jumper from in the paint. The Seahawks went on to score the next four points on foul shots by Daciek and Saint-Aubin to lead 27-22 at halftime. Uglik had 11 points at the half. Daciek totaled six points and five rebounds. Wallace led Rowan with 11 points and Shaw added seven points and five rebounds.

St. Mary’s remains undefeated with a 3-0 record and Rowan has a 1-2 mark. Rowan travels to Immaculata University on Monday, November 27 at 7 p.m.
