Profs Swimming Splits With Washington & Lee

GLASSBORO, NJ - The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams hosted Washington and Lee University on Sunday. The Rowan men lost to Washington and Lee, 135-104 while the women had a 148-107 victory.

The Prof men are 2-2 on the season and the women have a 3-1 mark. The General men are undefeated with a 6-0 record and the women are 4-7 overall.

The Rowan men took second place (1:40.87) in the 200 medley relay with Chris Sykes (sr. Haworth, NJ/Northern Valley Reg.), Kevin Baker (jr. Landing, NJ/Roxbury), Kevin Wallace (so. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape Reg.) and Kevin Ovalle (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson). In the individual events, Baker won the 100 (1:01.62) and 200 (2:14.99) breaststrokes and the 200 individual medley (2:02.95).

Andrew Williams (jr. Bensalem, PA/Father Judge) had a second place in the 200 individual medley (2:05.06) and he was third in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.96). Andrew Donachy (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) took second in the 1000 freestyle (10:37.59) and third in the 50 free (22.72). Nick Giacopelli (sr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) finished second in the 200 freestyle (1:47.67) and third in the 100 free (50.24). Sykes took third place in the 100 backstroke (59.68). In the 100 butterfly, Wallace was first (54.70) followed by David Shinton (jr. Newark, DE/Newark) second (56.72) and Sam Spracklin (fr. Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) third (56.93).

The Rowan women won the 200 medley relay (1:55.23) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.05). The medley relay consisted of Stephanie McAllister (fr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Samantha King (fr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City), Janina Wojcik (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) and Alicia Mackleer (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest).

Caitlin Ayres (sr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) had two first places in the indivdual events. Ayres took first in the 1000 freestyle (11:05.10) and 200 butterfly (2:15.99). Ashley Gagnon (fr. South Amboy, NJ/Middlesex County Academy) was also a double winner taking first in the 200 (2:02.14) and 500 (5:24.17) freestyles. Gagnon took second in the 200 butterfly (2:19.47). Meghan McCourt (fr. Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) won the 100 (1:10.86) and 200 (2:33.82) breaststrokes while King was second in both (100 – 1:11.76; 200 – 2:35.68).

In the 50 free, the Profs finished first, second and third with Mackleer (25.44), Wojcik (25.71) and Christine DiRubbo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokke) (25.72). McAllister had two second places in the 100 (1:03.98) and 200 (2:19.38) backstrokes. DiRubbo won the 100 freestyle (55.72) while Mackleer came in second (56.61). Wojcik was the winner in the 100 butterfly (1:01.42).
