GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team shutout visiting Catholic University, 3-0. It was the Profs’ fifth shutout of the season.
Rowan, ranked 10th in the nation, scored all three goals in the second half. Forward Danielle Miranda (jr. Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) scored the first one at 37:29. She knocked in a loose ball in front of the cage after the Profs had taken a penalty corner. It was Miranda’s sixth goal this season.
Forward Amanda Greene (so. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester) tipped in a high pass from forward Rachel Cheafsky (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) at 59:45 for the second score. Greene took the ball from midfield and passed around a defender to midfielder Susan Massara (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) who scored the final goal at 62:47. Massara and Miranda are the team’s scoring leaders with 14 points apiece.
Rowan (7-4) outshot Catholic (6-5), 29-8. Goalie Amanda Cucinotti (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) made four saves for her fifth shutout. Catholic goalie Marian Cassilly (fr. Gambrills, MD/Archbishop Spalding) stopped 15 shots.
Rowan travels to FDU-Florham on Monday, October 9 for a 4 p.m. nonconference game.
