GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated non-conference opponent Salisbury University, 2-0 on Wednesday night.
The win gave Rowan head coach Scott Leacott his 100th career win. Leacott’s record stands at 100-31-15 and he has a .736 winning percentage. He is ranked in the top 20 in Division III for active coaching victories. Rowan’s record improves to 10-0-2, while Salisbury drops to 3-5-1.
Krista Verzi (fr. Delran, NJ/Delran) broke a scoreless tie at 59:20 when she scored from six yards out after the ball deflected off a defender. Verzi has seven goals on the season. She leads the Profs’ with 17 points. At 78:19, Jackie Kane (sr. Avenel, NJ/Woodbridge) gave Rowan a 2-0 lead on a goal assisted by Karen Patruno (sr. Somerdale, NJ/Paul VI). Patruno chipped the ball over the defense setting Kane free for a breakaway. The goal was Kane’s sixth of the year.
The Profs took 13 shots and the Sea Gulls had six. Rowan goalie Melissa Hall (so. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) saved two shots to record her fourth shutout of the season. Salisbury’s Samantha Phipps (sr. Pasadena, MD/Meade) made six saves.
Rowan’s next game is at Philadelphia Biblical University on Saturday, October 7th, at noon.
