GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team won
7-0 over Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday. It was the last home game of the season for the Profs.
Rowan, ranked 12th in the nation, is 13-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Ramapo has an overall record of 6-9 with a 0-5 NJAC mark.
Midfielder Colleen McGowan (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) led the Profs with two goals and forward Rachel Cheafsky (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) contributed with one goal and two assists. Also scoring one goal apiece were forwards Danielle Miranda (jr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive), Amanda Greene (so. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester), Kiley Graham (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and Katelynn Hughes (fr. Rosenhayn, NJ/Cumberland Reg.). Back Shayne Bennett (sr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) and midfielder Susan Massara (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) each added an assist.
Rowan had a 5-0 lead after the first half. Greene only took 20 seconds to score the first goal. Mirando had the second at 6:07 on a pass frm Cheafsky. Cheafsky ‘s goal came at 8:37 off a feed from Massara. McGowan scored the fourth (11:50) and fifth (33:23) goals. Her first one was assisted by Cheafsky and the second was unassisted.
In the final period, Hughes knocked in a pass from Bennett at 64:04. With one minute left, Graham had an unassisted goal. The Profs totaled 33 shots while the Roadrunners had three.
Goalie Taryn Rhodes (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) played the first 50 minutes in the Rowan net and Paige Basil (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) was in the goal for the final 20. For Ramapo, goalie Megan Tierney (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) made 15 saves.
Next week, Rowan ends the regular season at conference opponent Kean University on Saturday, November 4 at 6 p.m.
