GLASSBORO, NJ – The New Jersey City University women’s volleyball team defeated Rowan University, 3-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Tuesday.
With the win, the Gothic Knights improve to 27-6 overall and 7-1 in the NJAC. New Jersey City will receive a bye in the first round of the NJAC Championship Tournament for the second straight year. The tournament begins on Tuesday, October 31. The Profs finish the season 6-18 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
New Jersey City was led by middle blocker Lizzelle Cintron (jr. Newark, NJ/Elizabeth) with 16 kills, 12 digs and six blocks. She now has 2,056 kills in her career, which is good for 16th place in NCAA Division III history. For the three games, Cintron had a .750 hitting percentage. Outside hitter Jacqueline LeBlanc (so. Westfield, NJ/Westfield) added 14 kills, six digs and three blocks, while middle blocker Sarah Torres (so. Elizabeth, NJ/Science) posted 10 kills and three blocks. Setter Sofia Gutierrez (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) totaled 46 assists.
For Rowan, outside hitter Alexis Louie (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) registered 10 kills and five digs. Outside hitter Karen Ramirez (fr. Bogota, NJ/Bogota) contributed eight kills and six digs, while middle blocker Theresa Pecoraro (jr. Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) had eight digs. Setter Chrissy McKay (fr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) added 21 assists.
