Alvernia Tops Rowan In Overtime, 3-2

READING, PA – Forward Megan Novogratz scored two goals, including the game winner in overtime to lead 20th ranked Alvernia College to a 3-2 victory over 12th ranked Rowan University.

Novogratz (sr. Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) knocked in a shot from the right side with 14 seconds remaining in the first overtime to give the Crusaders the victory. In the second period, Rowan forward Danielle Miranda (jr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) recorded an unassisted goal at 47:47 to cut Alvernia’s lead to 2-1. Miranda sent the game into overtime with her second goal at 65:16.

In the first stanza, Novogratz put Alvernia ahead 1-0 at 5:26 on a tip-in. Forward Jessie Titus (sr. Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) picked up the assist. Forward Becky Macchione (sr. Richland, PA/Conrad Weiser) put back a penalty corner off a pass from back Lauren Yoder (jr. Fleetwood, PA/Oley Valley) at 6:46 for a 2-0 halftime advantage.

Rowan outshot Alvernia, 20-13. Crusaders’ goalie Audrey Hoffman (so. Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) made 14 saves. Goalie Amanda Cucinotti (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) stopped seven shots for the Profs.

Rowan (10-5) travels to New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent Richard Stockton College on Saturday, October 21 at 11 a.m., while Alvernia (14-2) is at DeSales University at 1:30 p.m.
