Rowan Defeats Eastern, 5-2

GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Danielle Miranda scored three goals and forward Amanda Greene added two to lead the 12th ranked Rowan University field hockey team to a 5-2 victory over 18th ranked Eastern University on Tuesday.

Miranda (jr. Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) put the Profs ahead 1-0 at 15:15. She knocked in a feed from midfielder Colleen McGowan (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown). Just over a minute later, Miranda had her second goal and forward Kiley Graham (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) got the assist. At 33:26, Greene (so. Thorofare, NJ/Gloucester) had an unassisted goal. With 40 seconds remaining in the first half, Eastern forward Lindsay Moyer (fr. Telford, PA/Christopher Dock) scored to make the score 3-1.

In the second half, Miranda found the back of the cage off a pass from forward Rachel Cheafsky (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) at 52:03. Less than a minute later, Eastern forward Christy Miller (sr. Elverson, PA/Twin Valley) slapped in a shot from 20 yards out to cut the lead to 4-2. Greene had the last goal of the game at 65:29 on a breakaway.

Rowan outshot Eastern, 28-6. Profs’ goalie Amanda Cucinotti (jr. Voorhees, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) made four saves. Goalie Kelly Garland (so. Lanhartsville, PA/Kutztown) played the first 52:03 for the Eagles and stopped five shots. Rebecca Hewes (jr. Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) played the remainder of the game saving three shots.

Rowan improves to 10-4, while Eastern has a 13-3 record. Rowan travels to Alvernia College on Thursday, October 19 for a 3:30 p.m. game.
