MAHWAH, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team increased its unbeated streak to 14 games with a 3-1 victory over conference opponent Ramapo College.
The Profs have an overall record of 12-0-2 and a 4-0-2 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Roadrunners are 5-6-2 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC.
Rowan was ahead 2-0 after the first half. Midfielder Jenna Balestriere (so. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) had the first goal unassisted at 11:30. Midfielder Kaitlyn Florio (so. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) found the net at 31:29 with a pass from forward Jackie Kane (sr. Avenel, NJ/Woodbridge). It was Florio’s ninth goal of the year.
In the second period, Kane made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal at 53:29. She knocked in a deflected shot for her seventh this season. With about four minutes left , midfielder Meghan Farrell (sr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) scored the Roadrunners’ goal on a penalty kick.
Rowan finished the game with 13 total shots and Ramapo took six. Goalie Gabby Ditchey (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape Reg.) made three saves in the Profs’ goal. For Ramapo, goalie Jessica DaRold (fr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) had one save in the first half while Samantha Gribben (jr. Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock) stopped five in the second.
Rowan returns home on Saturday, October 14 against Rutgers-Newark for a 1 p.m. conference game. It is the last home game of the regular season for the Profs.
