PHOENIXVILLE, PA– The Valley Forge Christian College women’s basketball team came from behind to win 79-66 over Rowan University on Tuesday night.
The Patriots improve to 10-15 overall while the Profs have an 8-15 record. Guard Amanda Reich led the way with a game-high 34 points that included seven three-pointers. Forward Amanda Compton contributed with 16 points and Morgan Godwin added 12. Forward Keionna Jackson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
For Rowan, forward Lauren Gregg (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) totaled 16 points and 10 boards. Center Kate Matthews (fr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and guard Alissa Lamey (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) produced 15 and 13 points respectively. Matthews also grabbed eight rebounds. Guard Chanelle Banta (sr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) chipped in with 10 points.
In the second half, Valley Forge Christian trailed by 12 points (46-34) at 14:55 after Lamey nailed a three. The Patriots scored seven straight points to cut the deficit to five (46-41) at 12:26. Reich tallied five points and Jackson had two. Gregg’s two foul shots made the score 49-41 (11:57). VFCC had a 10-0 spurt to go ahead 51-49 with 9:15 remaining. Reich contributed with two threes while Compton added two baskets. Gregg tied the score at 51 with a basket at 8:58. The Patriots followed with an 8-2 run that ended at 7:30 for a six-point advantage (59-53). Reich registered five of the eight points. Valley Forge Christian held on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
With 4:13 left, Compton converted two free throws that made the score 65-58. Rowan pulled within three (65-62) with a layup by Banta (3:35). She had two foul shots at 1:36 and the Profs were down by seven (73-66). The Patriots ended the game with six unanswered points for the victory. Reich was three for four at the line and Godwin hit a three-pointer. In the second period, Reich compiled 26 points and Compton scored 12.
There were four ties in the first half. Banta’s three at 12:30 put the Profs ahead 14-11. Godwin followed with a three at 12:19 that tied the score. Rowan scored nine straight points for a nine-point lead (23-14) at 9:56. Gregg’s three-pointer at 5:35 stretched the lead to 12 (30-18). The Patriots pulled within five points (30-25) after a jumper by Jackson at 3:04. Rowan finished the period with baskets by guard Jade Bonder (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Gregg and Lamey for an 11-point advantage (36-25).
