Women's Basketball To Hold "Play 4Kay" Game

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team will hold “Play 4Kay” at its game on Wednesday, February 15.  The Profs host conference opponent Rutgers-Camden at 6 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m.

The proceeds will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.  Play 4Kay is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.  The event was formerly known as the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone and Think Pink.

Fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing pink to the games.  During the doubleheader, there will be raffles to win various prizes and a shooting contest at halftime of the men’s contest.  The women’s basketball team will be selling Play 4Kay t-shirts.  Donations can also be made at the Profs’ team page – www.play4Kay.org/Rowan.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded in 2007 in partnership with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, to raise money in the fight against women’s cancers.  The late Kay Yow was the former North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach and a past president of the WBCA.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and later passed away on January 24, 2009 after her third bout with the disease.  Since the establishment of the Fund, $4,500,000 has been raised for scientific research focused on women’s cancers.

The official dates for the 2012 Play 4Kay are February 10-12.  The goal is to raise $1 million after donations totaled $650,000 last year.  For additional information about the Kay Yow Cancer Fund go to: www.kayyow.com.
