Women's Cross Country Wins NJAC Championships and Wright Takes First Place

GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rowan University women’s cross country team won the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship on Saturday.  The Profs’ Vanessa Wright was the individual champion and the conference’s Runner of the Year.  The championships were held at Richard Stockton College.

Rowan ended The College of New Jersey’s reign of 16 straight titles.  It was the Profs’ third conference championship and first since 1994.  Rowan’s Sammar Abueldoleh (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was the NJAC Rookie of the Year.  In the team scoring, the Profs totaled 21 points.  TCNJ was second (34) followed by Ramapo College, third (93) and Richard Stockton College, fourth (98).  Rutgers-Camden and New Jersey City University were fifth (161) and sixth (171) respectively.   

Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) had a winning time of 21:10.67 over the 6K course.  Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) came in second (21:37.21) and Jenn Rawls (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) finished third (22:20.55). 

Meghan Borz (so. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) took seventh place (22:41.42) and Abueldoleh followed eighth (22:43.59).  Abueldoleh was Rowan’s fifth runner to score.  The sixth and seventh runners were Joy Hanke (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford), 13th (23:13.33) and Catherine Nolan (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit), 16th (23:46.00).

Angelina Bongiovanni (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit) finished 20th (23:54.09).  Grace Kaler (so. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) and Kayla Warren (so. Gibbsboro, NJ/Eastern Reg.) were 23rd (24:02.00) and 24th (24:04.95) respectively.  Ashley White (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) was 29th (24:27.75) followed by Samantha Stapleton (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), 30th (24:28.41) and Gabby Prendergast (so. Blackwood, NJ/Higland Reg.), 31st (24:31.24). 

Priscila Antuna (so. Waretown, NJ/Southern Reg.) came in 41st (25:25.43), Eileen O’Mara (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) took 43rd (25:27.06) and Christina Huynh (jr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) was 45th (25:29.17).  Mary Gonzales (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Paul VI) finished 52nd (26:50.71) and Francesca Contino (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was 63rd (29:45.64).   

Rowan has a week off before the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Saturday, November 12 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.
