Rowan Plays Ramapo in first round of the NJAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team will host Ramapo College in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday, February 20 at 1 p.m.

The Profs (16-8) are the second seed in the conference’s South Division while the Roadrunners (11-14) are seeded third in the North Division. In the other first round game, the North second seed Montclair State University (15-9) hosts the South third seed Richard Stockton College
(13-12) at 2 p.m. The South top seed Kean University (24-1) and the North number one seed William Paterson University (24-1) have a first round bye.

On Tuesday, February 23 in the semifinals, the winner of the Montclair State/Richard Stockton game faces Kean in Union while the Rowan/Ramapo winner travels to William Paterson. Both semifinal games are at 7 p.m. The semifinal winners meet in the conference final at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 26 at the highest remaining seed.

The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Tickets for the conference tournament are: $5 for adults and $2 for students, children and senior citizens.

This is Rowan’s third straight appearance in the conference tournament. Last year, William Paterson edged Rowan, 51-50 in the first round while Kean won 68-33 over Rutgers-Newark. In the semifinals, Kean had a 76-55 victory over Montclair State and The College of New Jersey eliminated William Paterson, 67-47. TCNJ won the NJAC title 69-57 over Kean.

During the regular season, Rowan defeated Ramapo, 71-66 (Jan. 13). Forward Amanda Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) is the Profs’ leader in scoring (20.0) and rebounding (10.0). Jennings has also totaled 54 steals and 46 assists. In the conference, she ranks first in scoring and field goal percentage (.597). Jennings is third in blocks (1.33) and fourth in rebounds and free throw percentage (.796). Three times this year, Jennings was named the NJAC Player of the Week.

Forward Michelle Lala (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) is second with 11.5 points per game (ppg) and guard Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) follows with 10.9. On the boards, Catanzariti has a 6.1 rebound average and Lala is contributing with 6.0. Cantanzariti’s 0.96 blocked shots per game are sixth in the conference.

Guards Danielle Rohe (sr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) and Alissa Lamey (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) are averaging 6.9 and 5.5 ppg respectively. Lamey is the NJAC assist leader with 5.58 per game and she is also fourth in steals (2.63). Rohe is the team’s top three-point shooter with 34. She is seventh in the conference in three-pointers made (1.42) and 11th in three-point field percentage (.279).
