SALISBURY, MD – The Rowan University men’s and women’s cross country teams started the 2009 season at the Sea Gull Invitational on Saturday. In the team scoring, the women finished second overall and the men took third place.
Rowan’s Jenn Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) was the women’s individual winner. She ran a time of 21:47 over the 6K course. Jena Peacock (so. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) followed second in 22:20. Joy Hanke (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) had a 13th place (24:01). Laura O’Mara (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) was 14th (24:05) and Eileen O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) came in 17th (24:29).
The men’s top finisher was Stephen Mennitt (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) who was third with a time of 26:32. The men’s race was a distance of 8K. Jake McCormack (so. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) had an eighth place finish (27:02). Brian Quilty (jr. Brick, NJ/St. Rose) and Jeff Terebey (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) were 15th (27:41) and 16th (27:42) respectively. The fifth runner to score was Mike Carotenuto (fr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) who came in 21st (28:10).
Next week, Rowan will compete at the Fordham Fiasco on Saturday, September 12. The women’s race is at 10:30 a.m. followed by the men at 11 a.m. The meet will be held at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City.
