NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women’s basketball team rolled over John Jay College, 97-41 in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs had five players that scored in double figures. Forward Amanda Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) and guard Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) each compiled 15 points. Jennings also grabbed eight rebounds. Guard Lauren Creel (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) came off the bench for a career-high 13 points. Forwards Michele Lala (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) and Erin Farrell (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) contributed with 11 and 10 points respectively. Guard Alissa Lamey (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) totaled nine assists.
Rowan has a 5-2 overall record while John Jay drops to 0-6 on the season. For the Bloodhounds, guard Jessica Lirio (jr. Bronx, NY/St. Barnabas) scored 16 points and guard Dominique Grice (jr. North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) added 11. Lirio also registered six assists and three steals. Forward Zadoora Carson pulled down a game-high 14 boards.
In the first half, John Jay was up by two points (7-5) at 17:27 then Rowan scored 10 straight points to lead by eight (15-7). Jennings had two baskets and guard Danielle Rohe (sr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) hit a three-pointer. Lala made a jumper and Catanzariti had a free throw. The Profs were up by eight points (22-14) at 10:12. Rowan built an 18 point lead (34-16) with a 12-2 run that ended at 7:47. Farrell and Catanzariti scored four points apiece. Rohe’s three made the score 45-20 with 4:36 remaining. The Profs had a 30 point advantage (52-22) at 2:52 after a three-pointer by forward Courtney Hulsart (fr. South Amboy, NJ/South Amboy). Rowan was ahead 59-24 at the intermission.
The Profs started the second period with 18 unanswered points in 6:15 to lead by 53 points (77-24). Lala and Catanzariti each scored seven points and Jennings had four. Creel made a basket (10:22) and a free throw (10:02) for a score of 83-28. With 3:01 left, Rowan was ahead by 57 points (94-37) on a layup by guard Ashley Russo (fr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence).
Rowan travels to Penn State Berks on Tuesday, December 8 for a 6 p.m. nonconference game.
