Ursinus Defeats Rowan, 62-54 in First Round of Albright College Tip-Off Tournament

READING, PA – Forward Julie Bown scored 18 points to lead Ursinus College to a 62-54 win over Rowan University in the first round of the Albright College Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.

Albright (1-0) will face the winner of today’s first round game between Albright and Penn State Harrisburg in the championship on Sunday, November 22 at 3 p.m. Prior, Rowan (1-2) plays the loser of the other first round game in the consolation at 1 p.m.

Bown (sr. Lower Gwynedd, PA/Penn Charter) shot five of nine from the floor and made six of six free throw attempts. Forward Lindsay Teuber (so. Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil’s) recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Guard Alli Rosati (so. Jamison, PA/Central Bucks E.) added 11 boards. Center Carolyn Konstanzer (sr. Hilltown, PA/Pennridge) posted 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

For Rowan, guards Alissa Lamey (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and Ashley Russo (fr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) both scored 12 points. Russo also grabbed nine rebounds. Forward Amanda Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) registered 10 points. Guard Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) added 11 boards.

In the first half, Ursinus started the game with a 21-6 run over the first 9:28. Teuber and Brown scored seven points apiece. Russo (8:51) and forward Lauren Creel (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) (8:24) each had a layup to bring the Profs within 11 points (21-10). The score was 24-12 at 6:59. The Bears went on a 6-0 run to take a 30-12 lead. Bown scored four of the six points. Catanzariti’s free throw at 1:09 cut the deficit to 14 (30-16). Teuber’s foul shot with 32 seconds left made the score, 31-16 at the intermission.

In the second period, Lamey’s layup (15:56) brought Rowan within 12 points (35-23). Ursinus answered with an 8-0 surge to pull ahead, 43-23 with 11:46 remaining. The Profs out scored the Bears 22-9 over the next 5:22 to come within seven (52-45). Lamey and Russo both posted seven points in the run. Lamey’s layup at 2:36 made the score, 56-51. It was closest the Profs would come.
