GLASSBORO, NJ  – The Rowan University women’s swim team defeated York College (PA), 149-106 on Monday evening. 

The Profs are 6-4 overall while the Spartans are 5-8 on the season.  Rowan took first place in the 200 medley (1:56.72) and the 200 freestyle relays (1:41.08).  The medley relay included Kelly Gallagher (fr. Haddon Twp., NJ/Haddon Twp.), Olivia Wojtowicz (fr. Centreville, MD/Queen Anne’s County), Teresa Stearns (sr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Gigi Russo (so. Rumson, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven Reg.).  Olivia Graham (fr. Montclair, NJ/Montclair), Victoria Grimsgaard (fr. Eatontown, NJ/Monmouth Reg.), Stearns and Russo made up the free relay.

Russo won the 50 (24.65) and 100 (55.22) freestyles.  Gallagher had first places in the 100 (1:04.48) and 200 (2:21.21) backstrokes.  She also came in second (2:26.30) in the 200 individual medley.  Sam Wahl (fr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) took first in the 100 (1:12.50) and 200 (2:34.48) breaststrokes. 

Stearns came in first (2:01.76) in the 200 freestyle while Allison Schneider (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was the winner (5:25.70) in the 500 freestyle.  Julia DelNero (fr. Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:38.42.  Abby Grasso (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) swam 1:04.85 in the 100 butterfly for first place.  She also won the 200 butterfly in 2:24.05. 

Alyssa Schaefer (so. Ringwood, NJ/DePaul Catholic) had a second place (1:07.92) in the 100 butterfly and she was third (2:30.33) in the 200 butterfly.  Lauren Grajek (jr. Freehold, NJ/Freehold Twp.) came in third (2:31.21) in the 200 individual medley while Leanne Zaug (so. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) and Adrienne Bush (jr. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake) were fourth (2:33.50) and fifth (2:33.75) respectively.  Casey Sickler (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) took third (2:46.30) in the 200 breaststroke.

Next, Rowan University travels to Montclair State University on Saturday, January 19 for a 1 p.m. conference meet.
