In 1984, the Glassboro State Men’s Track & Field team won the NCAA Championship for the fifth year in a row, under coach Oscar Moore. The Profs totaled 114 points in the meet held at Carlton College (Northfield, MN).
Robert Abdullah was the 1984 national champion in the 110-meter hurdles (14.40) and a member of the winning 4x400 meter relay (3:12.40), a group which also included Ronald Moore, Edward Lamhing and Anthony Stone.
Don Deckert won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:00.13, which is still the school record and his brother, Ronald Deckert, was the national champion in the 5000 meters (14:13.46).
Robert Rimkis took second place (9:00.43) in the 3000-meter steeplechase and Lenny Hernandez finished sixth (9:09.74) in that even. Lamhing finished fifth (54.09) in the 400-meter hurdles and Peter Sharpless tied for fifth (6’ 11”) in the high jump.
Other top finishes came were Moore placing seventh (10.94) in the 100 meters and Anthony Abicca finishing seventh (14.79) in the 110 hurdles.
