The Glassboro State baseball team won its second straight NCAA Division III Championship in 1979, as the Profs shut out Cal State Stanislaus, 3-0, in the title game, going a perfect 7-0 in the tournament.
In the final, pitcher Matt McArow struck out 10 batters for a series record and only allowed three hits. Second baseman Tak Upshur hit a lead off home run and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Left fielder Joe Davis contributed an RBI single in the seventh inning and shortstop Frank Albano came home from second on an error by the catcher in the eighth.
The Profs started play in the South Regional by defeating Stillman (13-1), Virginia Wesleyan (7-3), and Trenton State twice (4-3, 6-0) to advance. In the first round of championship play, GSC defeated Mansfield, 7-3, and then Cal State Stanislaus, 18-2, to move on to the championship round.
The team compiled a 29-5 record that year, and also captured the NJSAC title.
