Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team won the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship with an 11-0 shutout in five innings over The College of New Jersey on Sunday afternoon.
The Profs (35-8) receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. It is Rowan's ninth conference championship. In the tournament, the Profs were the top seed and the Lions (28-14) were seeded third.
Right-hander
Beth Ann Hyland (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) went four innings for the victory. She (21-4) only allowed three hits.
Allison Nolan (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) pitched the final inning. Pitcher Sam Platt (so. Cedar Grove, NJ/Mt. St. Dominic Academy) had the loss on the mound.
Rowan ended the game with 17 hits. Right fielder
Morgan Smith (so. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) went four for four with two doubles, four RBIs and one run. Shortstop
Shilah Snead (sr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) totaled three hits, one RBI and two runs.
Left fielder
Mia Baldassari (so. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) registered two hits, one RBI and three runs. First baseman
Damariz Mercado (jr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) contributed with two hits, one RBI and one run. Center fielder
Gianna Genello (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) chipped in with two hits, one RBI and one run.
In the first inning, Smith drove in Snead with a single. Snead led off with a base hit to right field and she stole second. Baldassari's single moved Snead to third. Mercado registered a RBI single, scoring Baldassari. Rowan had two more runs in the second. Smith plated Baldassari and DeYoung with a double to right field.
Rowan recorded seven runs in the third inning. Genello, Snead and Baldassari all produced RBI singles. Pinch runner
Rosalie Hood (so. Egg Harbor City, NJ/Cedar Creek), Mercado and Genello each scored one run. DeYoung blasted a double to right center to send Snead and Baldassari home. Smith followed with a double to center field and pinch runner
Kristina Mueller (fr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) scored. Third baseman
Nicole Paiotti (so. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) knocked in Smith with a single down the left field line.
