Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team shut out Ramapo College, 12-0 in the second round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The game ended after five innings because of the eight run rule.
The top seeded Profs are 34-8 overall. They meet the third seed The College of New Jersey (28-13) in the conference championship on Sunday, May 8 at 11 a.m. The NJAC determined at the end of Saturday that the two teams would play for the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The decision was made because of the time constraints on Sunday to meet the NCAA deadline.
Right-hander
Beth Ann Hyland (sr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) went four innings for her 20th victory on the season. She (20-4) only allowed one hit and had four strikeouts.
Allison Nolan (sr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) was on the mound for the final inning. Pitcher Katrina Buczkowski (so. Buffalo, NY/Clarence) had the loss. Ramapo (21-15) was the fourth seed in the conference tournament.
Shortstop
Shilah Snead (sr. Malaga, NJ/Delsea Reg.) contributed with two hits, a double, two RBIs and two runs. Right fielder
Morgan Smith (so. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) was two for four with a double, two RBIs and one run. First baseman
Damariz Mercado (jr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) added one hit, one RBI and two runs. Designated player
Ashley DeYoung (jr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) chipped in with two RBIs and center fielder
Gianna Genello (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) had one.
Rowan recorded six runs in the first inning. DeYoung drove in Snead and left fielder
Mia Baldassari (so. Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Morris Knolls) with a single to center field. Smith crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Mercado's base hit scored second baseman
Carly Anderson (fr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley). Snead plated two runs with a double to right field.
The Profs scored six more runs in the fifth. Genello drove in Mercado with a double to left field. Catcher
Alyssa Sims and Genello each came home on an error. Smith produced a two RBI double. Pinch runner
Kristina Mueller (fr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) crossed the plate on second baseman
Gianna Decker's (fr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) ground out.
The conference tournament continues on Sunday, May 8 at Rowan. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students, senior citizens and children.
