Men's Soccer Hosts Philadelphia Fury In Exhibition Game

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team will play the Philadelphia Fury in an exhibition game on Saturday, August 29 at 7 p.m.  The contest will be held at the Profs' soccer field and benefits the Dave Logar Memorial Fund.

Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for students, children and senior citizens.  A midfielder, Logar started for the Rowan men's soccer team for two seasons (1993 and 1994).  He was hit by a car in the summer of 1995 working for a lawn care service and was paralyzed from the chest down.  Logar later succumbed to his injuries in January 1998.

He was selected to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) first team in 1993 and 1994.  In two seasons, he totaled 44 points with 16 goals and 12 assists.  The NJAC has a leadership award named in his honor, which is presented annually when the All-Conference teams are announced.

The money raised at the exhibition game will fund scholarships for student-athletes at Lenape High School that show the same aspirations, desire and hard work that Dave had as a player and a person.  The fund also donates money to assist individuals that are paralyzed.

Rowan started its 2015 preseason camp on Wednesday, Aug. 19.  This is Scott Baker's second season as head coach.  He has 17 veterans and 16 newcomers looking to make this year's squad.  In 2015, the men's soccer team finished 10-9 overall.  Returnees forward Travis Ward (so. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) and midfielder Vinny Ignatowicz (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) received NJAC All-Conference honorable mention.

The Philadelphia Fury competes in the American Soccer League (ASL).  The purpose of the league is to develop American players for professional playing opportunities.  In its second season, the ASL will play a spring-to-fall schedule.  The league estimates that it will have 14 to 16 teams when the 2016 season begins.  The teams will play a 2015 fall exhibition game schedule.

Fans can make a donation to the Dave Logar Memorial Fund by sending a check in care of Andy Logar, 119 Redtail Hawk Circle, Sewell, NJ  08080.
