NJAC Athletes of the Week
Rowan's Vanessa Wright (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) was selected the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Track Athlete of the Week and Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) was chosen the conference's Rookie of the Week.
Wright earns NJAC Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season after traveling to Springfield, MA to compete at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. She finished second in a field of 30 competitors in the 1,500 meters with a school record time of 4:31.72. She was also a member of the Profs’ 4x800 meter relay that took second in a field of 29 teams with a school record time of 9:10.36. By virtue of her NCAA Division III 11th best qualifying time in the 5,000 meters (17:00.71), Wright will travel to LaCrosse, WI to compete at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Championships on May 25. The performances by the 2013 NJAC Women’s Outdoor Outstanding Track Athlete helped Rowan place first overall in the 57-team ECAC Championship.
Williams earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for the fifth time this season after traveling to Springfield, MA to compete at the ECAC Championships. She claimed the ECAC crown in the 400 meters by placing first in a field of 43 runners with a school record time of 56.32. She finished fifth in a field of 51 competitors in the 200 meters with a time of 24.80. She was also a member of Rowan’s ECAC champion 4x400 meter relay which placed first in a field of 23 teams with a school record time of 3:48.86. She competed as a member of Rowan’s 4x100 meter relay that took third in a field of 28 teams with a time of 47.82. Despite not running in the finals of the 100 meters, she produced a school record time of 12.02 during the 100 meter preliminaries. Williams will travel to LaCrosse, WI to compete in the 100 meters, the 200 meters, the 4x100 meter relay, and the 4x400 meter relay during the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Championships on May 23-25. The performances by the NJAC’s 2013 Women’s Most Outstanding Track & Field Athlete helped Rowan claim first place in the 57-team ECAC Championship.
