Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's soccer team lost to The College of New Jersey, 2-1 in two overtimes in the last game of the regular season on Wednesday night.
With 2:23 left in the second 10-minute overtime, forward Sean Etheridge (fr. Oakland, NJ/Ramapo) scored the winning goal with an assist from midfielder Kevin McCartney (jr. Old Bridge, NJ/St. Joseph's).
Rowan ends the season with a 10-9 record and a 3-6 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). TCNJ is 11-5-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the conference. The Lions will be the fourth seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament that starts on Saturday, November 2.
After a scoreless first half, TCNJ took the lead on a goal by forward Kevin Shaw (sr. Brookside, NJ/West Morris Mendham) at 62:23. Shaw hit the lower right corner of the Profs' net with a cross from midfielder/forward Mathew Ziegler (so. East Brunswick, NJ/Milford). Forward/midfielder Vinny Ignatowicz (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) tied the score at 79:10, when he knocked in a loose ball.
Rowan goalkeeper Ryan Gill (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) made six saves in 100 minutes. Goalie Kevin Vasta (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) played the second overtime. The Lions' goalie Aaron Utman (sr. Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) stopped eight shots.
