Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rutgers-Newark men's soccer team won 4-0 at Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday night.
Forward Raphael Araujo (jr. North Plainfield, NJ/North Plainfield) scored two goals while midfielder Brian Barrera (sr. Elizabeth, NJ/Union) and forward Nick Bucciero (jr. Howell, NJ/Freehold Twp.) each contributed with one. Rutgers-Newark has a 13-3-1 record with a 4-2-1 conference mark. Rowan is 8-8 overall and 3-4 in the NJAC.
Araujo hit the net the first time at 7:59 with a shot to the left side of the net. Araujo's second goal came at 61:23 when he dribbled into the box and again hit the lower left side. Barrera scored with a shot that went into the upper right corner at 67:38 and Araujo had the assist. Bucciero headed in a corner kick by midfielder/forward Anthony DeRisi (fr. Allentown, NJ/Allentown) with 3:48 remaining.
Goalie Matt Broomall (so. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) made five saves for his fifth shutout. He stopped a Rowan penalty kick with 21 seconds left on the clock. For the Profs, goalkeeper Ryan Gill (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) turned away three shots in 71:16. Goalie Kevin Vasta (jr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) played the remainder of the game and had one save.
