Women Win 4x800 Meter Relay At ECAC Championships And Finish Seventh Overall

TROY, NY – The Rowan University women’s track and field team finished seventh at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships on Friday. The two-day championships were held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Profs totaled 35 points among 55 teams.  Ithaca College captured the team championship with 68 points.  Rowan’s 4x800 meter relay won in 9:21.39 with Alexus Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Vanessa Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.), Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) and Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy).  They broke the school record of 9:24.84 from 2010. 

Shantel Beckford (fr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) took second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.265.  She advanced to the final after a fourth place (12.59) in the prelims on Thursday.  Searcy came in third (1:02.52) in the 400 meter hurdles.  In the 1500 meters, Wright finished seventh (4:40.32) followed by Peacock eighth (4:40.64).  Peacock also took eighth (2:15.47) in the 800 meters and Brianna Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) was 11th (2:18.35). 

The 4x100 meter relay had a ninth place in 49.18.  The relay consisted of Tashay Wilson (fr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside), Jamie Thompson (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick), Beckford and Jessica Carlson (so. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.). 

Thompson finished 11th in the long jump with a leap of 16’ 7.5” (5.07 meters).  Magan Kustera (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) came in eighth in the high jump.  She had a height of 5’ 2.5” (1.59 meters).  Jess Lomanaco (so. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) was 23rd in the discus with 102’ 11” (31.38 meters).   

The final participant list for the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be released on Sunday, May 20 at 9 a.m.  This year’s nationals are scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 24-26 at Burns Stadium in Claremont, CA.
