NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women’s indoor track team had six individuals that competed at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Friday and Saturday, February 3 and 4. The invitational included teams from all NCAA Divisions and was held at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.
On Friday night, the Profs’ distance medley relay finished 10th in the college race with a school record time of 12:06.17. The relay included Jenn Rawls (jr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.), Samantha Stapleton (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) and Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy). They broke the school mark of 12:15.99 that came at the New York City Gotham Cup earlier this season. The distance medley relay also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. The ECAC requirement is 13:00.00
In the college 5000 meters on Saturday, Peacock took ninth (17:11.97) and Sammar Abueldoleh (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) was 29th (18:39.00). Both of their times were ECAC qualifiers (18:44.00). Rawls finished 36th (5:15.15) in the one mile college run and Ashlee Hitchner (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Delsea Reg.) was 42nd (5:20.25). Rawls’ time was better than the ECAC requirement (5:16.50). Searcy had a 53rd place (2:21.22) in the 800 meters and she qualified for the ECACs (2:22.50).
Next week, Rowan travels to Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT on Saturday, February 11 for the Collegiate Track Conference Championships that starts at 8 a.m.
