NEWARK, DE – The Rowan University women’s indoor track team took third place at the Thomson Invitational on Saturday. The meet was held at the University of Delaware.
The Profs totaled 119.50 points among 24 teams. The University of Delaware came in first (254 points) followed by Towson University second (191.50 points). Rounding out the top five were The College of New Jersey fourth (119 points) and Salisbury University fifth (102 points).
Rowan won the 4x800 meter relay (9:42.35) with Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy), Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison), Jenn Rawls (jr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) and Ashlee Hitchner (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Delsea Reg.). Their time was better than the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships qualifier of 10:12.00. The 4x400 meter relay was second with a time of 4:14.26. The 4x400 included Samantha Stapleton (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Brianna Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Alexus Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Tashay Wilson (fr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside).
Searcy took first place in the 500 meters (1:20.55). Her time broke the school record (1:21.75) that she set this season at the New York City Gotham Cup. She also qualified for the ECAC Championships (1:22.00). Peacock won the one mile in 5:10.19. Her time was an ECAC qualifier (5:16.50). Magan Kustera (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) was the winner in the high jump. She had a height of 5’ 1” (1.55 meters).
Shantel Beckford (fr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) finished second (8.19) in the 60 meters and fourth (27.55) in the 200 meters. Jessica Carlson (so. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) took second (9.55) in the 60 meter hurdles. She also had a third place in the triple jump with 34’ 4.75” (10.48 meters). Stapleton came in third (3:17.05) in the 1000 meters and Rawls was third (5:20.17) in the one mile. Ashley White (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) took third (11:25.70) in the 3000 meters and eighth (20:00.76) in the 5000 meters.
Kristen Prendergast (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) came in fourth (1:27.17) in the 500 meters and Hitchner was fifth (2:25.15) in the 800 meters. Tiffany Chamberlain (jr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) took fourth (9.65) in the 60 meter hurdles, sixth (27.71) in the 200 meters and eighth (1:04.20) in the 400 meters. Samantha Kamper (so. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) tied for fifth in the high jump with 4’ 9” (1.45 meters).
Jess Lomanaco (so. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) finished seventh (39’ 5.75”, 12.03 meters) in the weight throw and ninth (34’ 1.5”, 10.40 meters) in the shot put. Wilson had a seventh place in the 60 meters with a time of 8.46. She was also 10th (27.82) in the 200 meters. Brianna Streater took ninth place (2:30.70) in the 800 meters while her sister Alexus was ninth (5:41.85) in the one mile.
Next week, Rowan travels to Ursinus College on Saturday, February 4 for the Frank Colden Invitational at 9 a.m.
