Women's Cross Country Finishes Fourth At NCAA Atlantic Regional and Men Tie For Seventh

CANTON, NY– The Rowan University women’s cross country team finished fourth at the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Saturday and the men tied for seventh. The regional was held at St. Lawrence University.

Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) took second place followed by Vanessa Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) third.  Eric DuBois (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) finished fifth for the men.  All three runners qualified for next Saturday’s NCAA Division III Championships in Oskosh, WI.  The top two teams and the first seven individuals, not on qualifying teams, advance to the national championships.  The at-large teams and individuals will be announced on Sunday night by the NCAA.

Peacock ran 21:52.5 over the 6K course and Wright had a time of 21:58.5.  Jenn Rawls (jr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) was 26th (22:53.6) and Sammar Abueldoleh (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) finished 33rd (23:01.1).  Also scoring was Joy Hanke (jr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) in 49th place (23:23.1).  Rowan’s sixth and seventh runners were Meghan Borz (so. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) and Catherine Nolan (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit) who were 54th (23:26.6) and 87th (24:13.9) respectively.

DuBois had a time of 25:21.5 in the 8K race.  Jake McCormack (sr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) took 31st (26:17.3) and Rob Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Triton Reg.) came in 35th (26:22.6).  Jeff Tauriello (so. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) finished 58th (26:46.4) and Mike Carotenuto (jr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) was 90th (27:09.7).  Stephen Hoffman (sr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) was the Profs’ sixth runner (104th, 27:28.3) and Stephen Mennitt (jr. Edison, NJ/Edison) was the seventh (133rd, 27:55.2).

St. Lawrence won the women’s team title with 77 points.  The individual champion was SUNY Plattsburgh’s Stefanie Braun with a time of 21:52.1.  SUNY Geneseo took second (91) while Plattsburgh was third (99).  Rowan totaled 113 points and the fifth place team was New York University with 168.

The men’s team championship was captured by St. Lawrence with 89 points.  Lee Berube from Geneseo was the individual winner in 24:41.3.  Geneseo took second (95) followed by New York University third (103) and SUNY Cortland fourth (112).  The fifth team was the University of Rochester with 148 points.  Rowan finished with 219 points.
