ST. DAVIDS, PA – The Rowan University men’s soccer team had a 1-1 tie after two overtimes against Eastern University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Profs have a 3-0-1 record while the Eagles are 2-1-1 on the season. Rowan had a 1-0 lead after midfielder Ryan Gordon (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) scored at 6:41 with an assist from midfielder Cristhian Gonzalez (jr. Piscataway, NJ/Calasenz (Columbia)). Gordon shot the ball over the top of the Eastern goalie. It was his third goal of the year.
Back Kyle Hurst (sr. Commack, NY/Hauppage) recorded the tying goal unassisted at 75:33. Eastern ended the game with 16 shots while Rowan had 14. In the Profs’ net, goalie Charlie Cunliffe (sr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) registered six saves. For the Eagles, goaltender Matt Leig (so. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.) stopped four shots.
Next, Rowan travels to Virginia Wesleyan College for the Chick-Fil-A Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 10 and 11. On Friday, Christopher Newport University plays Rowan at 5 p.m. followed by Kean University against Virginia Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Christopher Newport and Kean meet at 5 p.m. while Rowan faces Virginia Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m.
