Baseball Earns Top Seed in NJAC Championship Tournament

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team is the top seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament. The Profs will host the sixth seed Montclair State University in the first round on Tuesday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m.

Rowan is 23-12-1 overall, while Montclair State has a 19-16 record. Also in the first round on Tuesday, fifth seeded Richard Stockton College (19-17) plays at second seeded Kean University (28-10) and the third seed Rutgers-Newark (22-18) hosts the fourth seed The College of New Jersey (20-17). TCNJ won the conference title in 2009.

The remainder of the double elimination tournament continues on Thursday, May 6 at the three sites of the highest remaining seeds. The tournament moves to the highest overall remaining seed on Saturday-Sunday, May 8-9. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Ticket prices for all rounds are $5 for adults and $2 for students with ID, senior citizens and children.

This is Rowan’s eighth straight appearance in the NJAC Championship Tournament. The Profs have won 13 conference championships (2004, 2003, 1999, 1979, 1978, 1977, 1973, 1971, 1970, 1968, 1967, 1965 and 1958). Last season, Rowan, the sixth seed, lost to top seeded Kean University, 3-1 in the first round. The Profs rebounded with a 3-2 victory over the fifth seed Ramapo College. Rowan was eliminated on the third day of the tournament by the third seed William Paterson University, 10-4.

During the regular season, Rowan swept a doubleheader over Montclair State, 8-7 and 6-3 in Glassboro, NJ. The Profs also won two games against Kean University, 5-4 and 12-4, and The College of New Jersey, 3-2 in 12 innings and 3-2. Rowan split a doubleheader at home versus Rutgers-Newark, winning the first game 4-3 and losing the second, 8-7. Richard Stockton defeated Rowan, 6-4 in Pomona, NJ. The Profs topped the Ospreys, 5-3 in Glassboro, NJ.
