New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III All-State Teams
GLASSBORO, NJ – Six Rowan University baseball players were named to the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Division II/III All-State Teams. Right-hander Jeff White was selected the Pitcher of the Year.
Center fielder Matt Citro (jr. Bloomsbury, NJ/Phillipsburg) was chosen to the All-State first team. Left-hander Michael Cox (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) earned second team honors, while right-hander Ryan Peterson (jr. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) and right fielder Jordan Marsch (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) were on the third team. Righty Steven Melchiorre (fr. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) was an All-Rookie team selection.
White (jr. Stratford, NJ/Sterling) has a 6-1 record with a 2.67 earned run average (ERA). He has a team-high 62 strikeouts and has thrown two complete games. White also collected one save. He was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Pitcher of the Year and to the All-Conference first team. In the NJAC, he is third in ERA, fifth in strikeouts, tied for fifth in wins and 10th in opponent’s batting average (.245) and innings pitched (64.0). White was chosen the NJAC Pitcher of the Week once this year.
Citro leads the Profs with a .348 batting average, .555 slugging percentage, 12 doubles, four triples and 23 stolen bases (29 attempts). He is tied for first on the team with a .449 on-base percentage and 30 RBIs. Citro has scored 31 runs, which is second on the squad. He received NJAC All-Conference first team honors. In the conference, he ranks first in stolen bases. Citro is tied for third in triples, tied for 11th in doubles, tied for 12th in total bases (86), 13th in slugging percentage and tied for 13th in home runs (four).
Cox is 4-1 with a team best 2.61 ERA. He has collected 32 strikeouts and one save. A NJAC All-Conference second team selection, he is second in the conference in ERA. Cox is tied for 14th in wins and he is 15th in innings pitched (58.2).
Peterson has posted a 5-2 record with a 3.32 ERA in 18 appearances. He has three saves and 32 strikeouts. In the conference, he is tied for third in saves, tied for seventh in wins and 13th in ERA. Marsch was chosen to the NJAC All-Conference second team. He is hitting .340 with a 30 RBIs and 25 runs scored. His extra base hits include 10 doubles, four homers and two triples. Marsch has a .517 slugging percentage and a .392 on-base percentage. In the NJAC, he is tied for 13th in home runs and tied for 14th in stolen bases (nine).
Melchiorre has a 1-0 record with a 4.56 ERA. He has appeared in eight games with two starts. In 25.2 innings, Melchiorre has 19 strikeouts. He is 13th in the NJAC in opponent’s batting average (.252).
Rowan is 24-14-1 overall and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The tournament first round is being played at Waterfront Park in Trenton, NJ on Wednesday-Sunday, May 19-23. Rowan, the sixth seed, takes on third seeded Widener University on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
