2010 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Region Teams
GLASSBORO, NJ – Three Rowan University softball players were named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) East All-Region Team. The eight All-Region Teams were announced on Thursday afternoon.
Center fielder Nicolina Veneziano (so. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) was selected to the East All-Region first team. Catcher Steph Taraschi (sr. Mt. Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) and shortstop Ashley Minch (so. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) were at-large selections on the All-Region second and third teams respectively.
This year, Veneziano led the Profs with a .377 batting average. She totaled 49 hits in 130 at bats. Veneziano was also first in RBIs (28), runs scored (37), total bases (93) and slugging percentage (.715). Her extra base hits included five doubles, six triples and nine home runs. She stole 10 bases in 10 attempts. Veneziano was chosen the 2010 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Year and to the All-Conference first team. She was tabbed the NJAC Player of the Week three times during the season.
A captain, Taraschi batted .325 with 39 hits in 120 plate appearances. She was first on the team in doubles (12) and second in RBIs (24). In addition, Taraschi registered 20 runs scored, four home runs and one triple. She was selected to the NJAC All-Conference first team. Last year, Taraschi was a member of the NFCA East All-Region first team.
Minch was second in batting average (.353) and runs scored (27). She collected 36 hits (102 at bats) and drove in 13 runs. In addition, Minch tallied 12 walks and was hit by a pitch 11 times. She had a .472 on-base percentage and a .952 fielding percentage. Minch was a 2010 NJAC All-Conference second team selection.
Rowan ended the season with a 28-13 record. The Profs made their 21st appearance and seventh straight in the NJAC Championship Tournament.
