GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University football player Jean Collado, soccer player Dan Coviello and track athlete Amirah Muneer were selected to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum, Tuesday – Friday, May 11-14. The Forum will be held at the Downtown Marriott in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Forum will allow student-athletes to be educated on careers in sports, in particular collegiate athletics. Through the use of dual tracks, participants will examine the key functions of a coach or administrator within sports. Key skills such as communication, networking, recruiting, managing culture, transitioning and budgeting will be discussed with the attendees.
The student-athletes were chosen by the NCAA after completing the application process which included submitting a current resume and answering various questions such as how they would impact college athletics over the next five years and why they want to work in intercollegiate sports.
A forward, Coviello (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) played in 16 games this past fall scoring one goal against Wilkes University. He has competed in 44 games during his career, tallying five goals and three assists. A health and exercise science major, he is a Rowan Scholar-Athlete. Collado (fr. Egg Harbor Twp/Egg Harbor Twp.) is an offensive lineman on the football team that went 7-3 this year. Currently, he is an exploratory studies major.
Muneer (so. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) competes in several sprint events during the indoor and outdoor track seasons. This past winter, she had a time of 1:01.20 in the 400 meters to take third place at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships. She was part of the 4x200 meter relay team, that finished fourth (1:46.58) at the conference championships. Muneer ran on the 4x400 meter relay that set the school record (4:06.79) at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. In the spring, Muneer placed eighth in the 400 meters (59.55) and 4x100 meter relay (4:01.48) at the Penn Invitational. At the Wake Forest Open, Muneer had the top Division III time in the 200 meters (26.32). A health and exercise science major, she is a Rowan Scholar-Athlete.
A total of 417 student-athletes were chosen to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum. This year’s forum is targeted towards student-athletes who have an interest in coaching baseball, basketball, bowling, football, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track and field, volleyball and wrestling. The administrator track will cover the areas of academics, compliance, facilities, life skills, marketing and promotions and sports information.
