NORTHAMPTON, MA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed on the first day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on Friday. The two-day meet is being hosted by Smith College. The Prof women are tied for third place among 29 teams with 18 points. The Rowan men are tied for 28th out of 29 schools with two points.

Jenn Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) won the 5000 meters with a time of 17:09.15, which was a NCAA automatic qualifier (17:10.00). She also surpassed the previous school record of 17:38.63, which she set earlier this season. Jena Peacock (so. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) followed in third place (17:36.48) and Ashley White (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) was 16th (18:43.29). Peacock’s time was better than the NCAA provisional (17:42.00).

The women’s 4x200 meter relay of Heidi DeGuzman (so. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken), Amirah Muneer (so. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Beverlee Brownlee (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) and Sylvia Mosley (so. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) captured seventh place (1:47.98). The distance medley relay finished 12th with a time of 12:58.74. The relay was comprised of Eileen O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.), Christina Huynh (fr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany), Alivia Royds (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Lisa Jones (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest).

DeGuzman was ninth (7.42) in the 55 meter preliminaries. In the women’s 55 meter hurdle trials, Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) came in 11th (8.76), while Rose Johnson (so. Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) was 25th (9.14). The event finals are on Saturday, March 6.

For the men, Kevin Gauntt (sr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) took second place in the 55 meter hurdle trials with a time of 7.87. He will compete in the finals on Saturday. Joseph Carmichael (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) captured seventh in the shot put with a throw of 47’ 3” (14.40 meters). Pierre James (fr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) followed 10th (46’ 5.5”, 14.16 meters). The distance medley relay of Jake McCormack (so. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.), Daniel Collier (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and Eric DuBois (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) came in 15th (10:40.82).

The two-day meet continues on Saturday, March 6 beginning at 10 a.m.
