Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad
GLASSBORO, NJ – Seven Rowan University field hockey players received Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad honors.
Midfielders Erin Bernat (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Jenna Lombardo (sr. Barnegat, NJ/Southern Reg.), forwards Ariel Comer (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Katie Griffis (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Kaitlin Hill (fr. Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville), back Bailey Van Jura (so. Tunkhannock, PA/Dallas) and goalie Jen Goldberg (fr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) were all named to the National Academic Squad.
Nominees for selection to the National Academic Squad are based on all Division III field hockey players who achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the fall semester. Rowan also received the NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award. The award goes to teams with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher through the fall semester.
Bernat has a 3.650 grade point average (GPA) in exploratory studies. She appeared in nine games this season. Lombardo, a team captain, recorded eight points with one goal and six assists. She was chosen the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Midfielder of the Year and to the All-Conference first team. Lombardo also collected Longstreth/NFHCA All-America second team and South Atlantic All-Region first team honors. She was selected to play in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game. Lombardo is majoring in health and exercise science with a 3.626 GPA. This is her third straight year on the National Academic Squad.
In her first season, Comer played in three contests. A secondary education mathematics major, she has a 3.494 GPA. Griffis and Hill both saw action in two games. Griffis is majoring in exploratory studies with a 3.433 GPA, while Hill has a 3.431 GPA in elementary education and liberal studies.
Van Jura played in five games, scoring one goal. She is a double-major in psychology and sociology with a 3.907 GPA. This is Van Jura’s second consecutive National Academic Squad honor. Goldberg is majoring in English education with a 3.460 GPA. She made six saves in four games.
Rowan finished the season with a 14-5 record and won the NJAC Championship. The Profs advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
