WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Rowan University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams started the outdoor season at the Wake Forest Open on Friday. The two-day meet continues on Saturday at Wake Forest University.

In the men’s javelin, Sean Corey (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) recorded a NCAA automatic with a throw of 215’ 3” (65.61 meters). He finished first among the college competitors and third overall. The NCAA automatic stands at 205’ 1” (62.50 meters).

Jenn Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) won the women’s 5000 meters with a time of 17:04.38. Her time was a NCAA provisional (17:35.00) and a school record. Rawls broke the University mark of 17:25.9 by Linda Vaughan in 1989.

Laura O’Mara (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) took ninth in the 10000 meter run in 39:54.76 and Joy Hanke (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was 18th (41:32.67). Ashley White (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) finished 20th in the 5000 meters (18:33.78).

Brian Makinson (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) tied for eighth in the men’s high jump B with 5’ 11.5” (1.82 meters). Matt Tholis (so. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) came in 13th place in the javelin with 184’ 4” (56.19 meters) and Anthony Ruggeri (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was 17th (173’ 5”, 52.86 meters). Kevin Gauntt (sr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) finished 18th in the prelims of the 110 meter hurdles (15.37). Jeff Terebey (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) was 22nd in the 10000 meter run (33:24.11).

This year, there are over 1,500 athletes from 40 different schools that are competing at the Wake Forest Open.
