GREENCASTLE, IN – Rowan University’s Jenn Rawls finished ninth in the 5000 meters at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday. The two-day championships are being held at DePauw University.
Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) ran a time of 17:14.01. The 5000 meter winner was St. Lawrence University’s Wendy Pavlus in 16:59.40.
Rawls earned a spot at the national championships by capturing first place in the 5000 meters at the ECAC Championships with a time of 17:09.15. She broke her own school record (17:38.63), which she set at the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships (Feb. 12-13). Her time at the ECACs was better than the NCAA automatic qualifier (17:10.00). Heading into the national championships, she ranked sixth among the 15 competitors.
Rawls only competed in the 5000 meters in two meets this year, winning both. At the CTC Championships (Feb. 12-13), she was first with a time of 17:38.63, which was better than the NCAA provisional (17:42.00). Her other first place finish came at the ECAC Championships (Mar. 5-6). She won the one mile at the NJAC Championship with a time of 4:56.79, breaking the school and meet records en route to earning All-Conference first team honors. In her rookie year, Rawls has broken five University records, three individual and two relays. She has the school’s top times in the one mile (4:56.79), three mile (16:35.20) and 5000 meters (17:09.15). Rawls ran on Rowan’s all-time best 4x800 (9:35.31) and distance medley (12:40.75) relays.
