MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed at the Collegiate Track Conference Championships on Friday-Saturday, February 12-13. The Prof women finished second among 21 teams, while the men were 10th out of 19 schools. The meet was hosted by Wesleyan University.
The women won the 4x800 meter and distance medley relays with times of 9:54.77 and 12:43.35 respectively. The team of Raneeka Doharty (so. Orange, NJ/Orange), Alivia Royds (fr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Jenn Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) and Jena Peacock (so. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) made up the 4x800 meter relay, which surpassed the previous school mark of 9:56.31 (2009). Rawls, Beverlee Brownlee (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro), Royds and Peacock were on the distance medley. The 4x400 meter relay of Amirah Muneer (so. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Tiffany Chamberlain (fr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.), Brownlee and Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) captured third place (4:12.66). The 4x200 meter relay comprised of Heidi DeGuzman (so. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken), Brownlee, Muneer and Sylvia Mosley (so. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) was fourth (1:48.32).
Rawls was the winner in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:38.63, which was better than the NCAA provisional (17:42.00). Her time also broke the school mark of 18:40.01 held by Sharon Crow (2003). Peacock and Ashley White (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) followed in second (17:58.57) and fourth (19:04.27) respectively.
DeGuzman captured third place in the 55 meter dash (7:36), sixth in the 200 meters (26.74) and was tied for 13th in the long jump with 13’9” (4.19 meters). Lisa Jones (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) took third in the one mile (5:30.14) and 1000 meters (3:16.35). Nisbett came in fifth in the 55 meter hurdles (8.86), sixth in the 400 meters (1:02.99), 12th in the triple jump (30’3.75”, 9.24 meters) and tied for 13th in the long jump with 13’9” (4.19 meters).
In the 500 meters, Muneer and Christina Huynh (fr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) were fourth (1:24.49) and fifth (1:24.94) respectively. Huynh also had a seventh place in the 800 meters (2:31.11), while Eileen O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) was 10th (2:36.18). O’Mara took fourth in the one mile with a time of 5:32.08. White finished fifth in the 3000 meters (11:00.39), followed by Joy Hanke (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) ninth (11:26.02) and Liz Guarini (jr. Steinertville, NJ/Steinert) 10th (11:30.49).
Doharty came in fourth in the 1000 meters (3:19.63), while Brownlee was 12th in the 200 meters (27.32). Chamberlain had a ninth place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.59. Rose Johnson (so. Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) captured eighth in the 55 meter hurdles (9.25) and tied for ninth in the high jump with 4’8.25” (1.43 meters).
The men’s distance medley relay of Jake McCormack (so. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.), Jayce Maxwell (so. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Daniel Collier (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Eric DuBois (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) came in second with 10:55.24. The 4x200 meter relay had a fourth place (1:34.67), while the 4x800 meter relay was sixth (8:35.84). Josh McGriff (fr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.), Maxwell, Julius Grayson (so. Hempstead, NY/Hempstead) and Dan Myers (jr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford Twp.) were on the 4x200 meter relay, while Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), Collier, Matt Crosta (so. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Tom Austin (so. Mantua, NJ/West Deptford) made up the 4x800. The 4x400 meter relay consisting of McGriff, Maxwell, Grayson and Benjamin Bradley (jr. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) finished seventh in 3:31.35.
Kevin Gauntt (sr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) took second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.88. Pierre James (fr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) was third in the shot put with a distance of 50’1.25” (15.27 meters). DuBois came in fourth in the 5000 meters (15:30.96), followed by McCormack in eight place (15:49.41). Brian Makinson (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) captured fourth in the pentathlon with 2891 points. In the five events, he tied for first in the high jump (6’0.5”, 1.84 meters), was sixth in the shot put (32’0.75”, 9.77 meters), seventh in the 1000 meters (2:58.83), 10th in the 55 meter hurdles (8.84) and 11th in the long jump (17’6”, 5.33 meters).
In the 3000 meters, Stephen Mennitt (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) had a seventh place finish (9:03.46). Crosta was ninth in the 1000 meters (2:46.13). Brian Quilty (jr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) took 11th in the one mile (4:37.59) and Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) was 13th (4:42.75). Joseph Carmichael (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) came in 10th in the shot put with a throw of 44’5.25” (13.54 meters). Giuseppe Mineo (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) tied for 13th in the high jump with 5’8” (1.73 meters).
