Profs Earn IWLCA Academic Squad Honors

GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan University women’s lacrosse players Annette Merlino and Kaitlyn Molzon were named to the 2009 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Academic Squad. The women’s lacrosse team received IWLCA Academic Squad honors.
This year, the IWLCA honored 407 student-athletes at 152 institutions from Division I, II and III. To be nominated, a player must be a junior or senior with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.5 or in the top 10 percent of their squad. There were 62 institutions that earned Academic Squad honors. Teams that have a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher received the distinction.
A defender, Merlino (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) majored in biological sciences and had a 3.909 GPA. She contributed with nine ground balls, seven caused turnovers and four draw controls. Merlino also added two points with one goal and one assist. Molzon is majoring in elementary education and has a 3.693 GPA. She totaled 18 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers in 16 games. Rowan had a team GPA of 3.303.
