Rowan Honors its Football Players for Academics

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University Brown and Gold Gridiron Club honored seven football players for their academic achievements at a ceremony on Monday, August 31.
The ceremony took place in the lobby of the University’s Science Hall. The awards were created by alumni Bill Kushner ’50 and Harry Beaudet ’50 to honor student-athletes on the football team that have accumulated a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. Each player was given a cross pen with a gold helmet and Rowan embossed on the barrel as a symbol of academic excellence.
The honorees included: defensive backs Jack Buckley (so. Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) and Eric Sharkey (so. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.), offensive lineman Brian Cary (so. Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Twp.), superback Keith Corcoran (so. Atlantic City, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)), quarterback Steve Graziano (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), linebacker Dan Hearn (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and tight end Max Larson (so. Delran, NJ/Delran).
Buckley and Sharkey are health and exercise science majors with 3.467 and 3.394 GPAs respectively. Cary is majoring in mathematics with a 3.116 GPA. Graziano has a 3.297 GPA in business management, while Hearn has a 3.239 in history. Larson has compiled a 3.3 GPA in accounting and Corcoran is a pre-major with a 3.089 GPA.
